Scout Opens in Birmingham.

September 21, 2006

Lewis Communications’ award winning former creative director Paul Crawford launches new kind of branding and communications company.

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Scout is a new communications company that approaches each marketing assignment without any preconceived assumptions of what the marketing solution might be.  This broader approach to branding comes as a result of more and more marketers voicing the need to look beyond traditional print and broadcast media, which is growing increasingly more fragmented.

“Asking the question, ‘What would we do if there was no TV or print media to deliver our marketing messages?’ gives us some really interesting solutions that maybe a traditional ad agency wouldn’t think of.”  said Paul Crawford, Scout’s president and creative director. “The idea is not to ignore or turn our back on the power of traditional media and advertising, but rather to not assume it’s the only way to deliver a brand message.”

Scout is also answering a call from today’s marketers who are looking to their branding partners for ideas on how to deliver their brand promise to the customer experience level. “We all encounter brands every day that don’t act very much like the ones portrayed in their marketing.” said Crawford. “These inconsistencies, especially in service businesses, can cause a higher customer turn-over because customers aren’t getting what they were promised.”

The name of the company represents the willingness to search out and find big ideas that cut through the advertising clutter and new ways to communicate brand messages. There is also a slight homage to the disarming and courageous little girl in To Kill a Mockingbird.

Originally from Birmingham, Paul Crawford is the former creative director for Lewis Communications/Birmingham. Before that, he worked at Arnold Worldwide in Boston where he did award winning work for brands like Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and The Hartford Insurance. In 2003, Paul’s work for Royal Caribbean was named a Stephen E. Kelley finalist, which recognizes the top 25 national magazine campaigns of the year. In 2005 and 2006, the Birmingham Advertising Federation named him both Creative Director and Art Director of the year. Scout’s web address is www.scoutbrand.com and the phone number is 205-423-8828
